Land purchase for conservation

To prevent fragmentation between protected areas, the Chelemhá cloud forest reserve was expanded over 172 ha, including 100 ha of primary cloud forest (see aerial photo). UPROBON now owns and manages the purchased land.

Chelemhá cloud forest reserve is marked with red frame. The blue frame indicates the extension of the Chelemhá reserve, now connecting to neighboring reserves (yellow frame) K'antishul and Chinajux y Sechinaux.

The financiation of the land purchase has been finalized in 2009 and was supported by NABU Regionalverband Erzgebirge e.V., Stiftung Artenschutz, PROEVAL RAXMU Bird Monitoring Program, and private donors. We are grateful for all donations.
